Libraries Rock! Summer Reading 2018

The theme of our program this year is “Libraries Rock!”. The 2018 Summer Reading Program is open to children, from preschool to Grade 5 with programs, story times, and more. Families with very young children are invited to join the Read-to-Me portion of the program, and the goal for everyone is to read or listen for 20 minutes per day. Registration for “Libraries Rock!” begins on June 18. Each child who registers will receive a Reading Rocks bracelet, a color change pencil, or a pin as well as a reading log and bookmark. Bring in your Reading Log when you have completed 200 minutes to be stamped and you can choose a FREE book from our treasure chest (maximum of 3 books per child).

You may also register for the program on line at http://wandooreader.com/swampscottlibrary/libraries-rock-kids-2018

The on line program has challenges based on minutes and it also has a place to enter book reviews and to keep track of the books you have read.

The Swampscott Public Library cares about your children and we have planned programs to keep them reading and learning all summer. Whether you keep track of the amount of time your children spend reading or the number of books they have read this summer, children who join the summer library program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.

And remember, you are your child’s first teacher. Look at picture books with your children who have not learned to read and point out people, animals, and objects in the pictures. Read to your children and ask them to read to you. Your librarian will be happy to help you find books that are just right. We hope that you and your family enjoy looking at books and reading together and that you discover the treasures of your library.

The Topsfield Fair will again be one of our sponsors, and will award free passes, including a hot dog, drink and 2 ride tickets, to all children who complete 900 minutes. The Boston Bruins will be awarding some great prizes, including autographed pucks & shirts, to randomly selected participants.
