The library subscribes to Zinio, a service that allows borrowers to check out complete digital editions of magazines and keep them as long as they want! Our subscription includes 34 different magazine titles which are available for downloading to your computer, phone or tablet. Zinio’s unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search and interactive elements such as audio and video. Zinio can be accessed on our website:

Zinio is free for Swampscott residents with a valid library card and can be accessed by anyone on library computers.

Ongoing Groups

Practically Speaking English

This program is a chance for new English speakers to come in and practice their skills in communicating in English. The group will be lead by a native English speaker to encourage members to only participate in English. The group will meet Tuesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:00am. No registration necessary.

Knitting Club

Join the Needlers a knitting group at the Swampscott Public Library. This group meets twice weekly, every Wednesday at 10:30a.m and Thursday at 1 pm. Knitters can attend either or both sessions.  Crocheters are welcome to join our group. We make our own projects or items to be donated to charity. Members can be beginners or experts.

Enjoy chatting about local history and reminiscing about earlier times?  Lou Gallo and his history buffs meet on the first Friday of the month at 10 am for an informal discussion of local history.  Everyone is welcome.

Check Out Books with Starred Reviews

The library now puts Starred Review and NYT Editors’ Choice stickers on New Fiction books. These stickers signify that the book has received an excellent review in one or more publications. So, try something new and pick a book with a Starred Review!
